If you are among the *few* people who haven't heard about Susan Boyle, please go watch this clip RIGHT NOW!

Even if you've seen it, maybe it would be good to watch again. I'd seen an interview clip and heard the recording she'd made ten years ago, but hadn't yet seen her performance on Britain's Got Talent. Every time I tell myself I'm too old or too plain for such-and-such, I am going to have a virtual cup of tea with Our Miss Boyle, because she is the most fantastic inspiration a gal could have. She's cute and funny and has a voice I could listen to forever!
Many thanks to @ImTheQ on Twitter for leading me to this blog post: http://www.murderati.com/blog/2009/4/19/how-do-you-know-when-to-quit.html
which led me to the video. This is an article about Never Giving Up on your dream (but not in a schmaltzy way). It's aimed at writers, but I think applicable to us all! Go check out the article, and Follow Q on Twitter, because she's a crack-up (if you don't mind potty language:)

i finally went and gave a listen to that little lady. WHAT A VOICE! and you normally couldn't pay me to watch that focacta american idol show, but i had to know what all the fuss was about. her voice is amazing, and i hope great things start happening for her!
ReplyDeleteWell, so do I! I just read an article by some Broadway-experienced gal, and she says her voice is unremarkable, and she repeats one arm motion. Hah! With a bit of coaching, you know she'll just get better. Plus, it's so damn refreshing to see someone get positive attention for singing without looking like Beyonce et al!
ReplyDeleteshe really has become an international star! amazing!
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing her mentioned on the news, I decided to check out to see what all the fuss was about. Wow! She's got an incredible voice. I felt really bad for how the judges and audience treated her when she came out. She really stunned them in a good way with that magical voice. Good for her! I wish her the best. I hope she will have a fantastic career. I can watch this clip over and over again.
ReplyDeleteI happened to be watching the show that night (not something I usually do) and everyone in the room was surprised and impressed. Good on her! Go Susan!
ReplyDeleteOK, so I'm here at the in-laws house (Father-in-law now has in-home hospice & I'm helping out) as you know, my in-laws are Persian, and my FIL's wife is mostly deaf, and watches Persian TV 24/7 at FULL blast... so most of the time, I try to block it out (very difficult BTW) until I heard this beautiful singing voice in ENGLISH of all things, and went to the room to see what it was - of course it was Susan Boyle! Don't know what the people were saying about her, but I enjoyed the clip of her singing. About the only thing I've enjoyed at full volume for the last 5 days, with no end in sight (enter all your pity here)... Long story short: Susan was the highlight of my week. :)
ReplyDeletesorry to post again so soon, but I just watched it again, (thanks to your link) without the Persian commentary, and I got goosebumps! She is just amazing... and I love the expression Simon got when she started singing. What a wonderful, courageous, talented woman.
