My First Slide Show!

Wow! I think it's working! This is my Flickr set on the house we bought last year in Yucca Valley, in the Southern California high desert. If you've heard of Joshua Tree National Park (yes, like the U2 album), it's the town next door.

Here is our remodeling journey on that house, our second. It was during this time that I discovered the blog RetroRenovation, and I sure would have made some decisions differently had I had all the resources and expertise from Pam and her readers before then! We learned a lot with this house, and we still own it (it's rented out) because of the bad market. There are many things I miss about the house. Let me know if you can tell what some of them are!

If you want to see the photos with all my titles and captions, just click on over to Flickr and choose the set "Yucca Valley house"

  2. Wow, Lisa! I can't get over how HUGE that house is! How many rooms, and how much square-feet was it, again?

You guys did some pretty great stuff with it, too! I was a bit surprised that you replaced a lot of the original tiling that was in the showers and on the counters, though. Now, you're ALL about preserving that original vintage stuff, in your current house...

Anyway, I can see why it cost such a fortune to heat & air-condition! That place is a small fortress. And I wouldn't be surprised if the girls got lost in there!

  7. Thanks Francie, and welcome to the Tea Party!

Anthony, the house is 3 bed, 2.5 bath, living, dining, family, office, "band room", laundry room, kitchen, 2-car garage, shed. 4050 sq ft of living space, 2/3 acre. We had a lot of room!

I don't think I'd replace the tile in the baths if I had it to do over again. We had contractor nightmares. I really didn't like the color combinations and we really wanted double sinks. Plus, we were planning to live there for a loooong time. Oh well.

MoonDoggie - I do miss that beautiful fireplace and the stone walls!

  8. Hi Jane! You must have been writing at the same time as me! Oh, the garden...I had such grand plans! It was a bit of a challenge re-learning how to garden in such a different climate, but I was up for it!
